Names of Canadian Soldiers Killed in Afghanistan Released

News Release
CEFCOM NR–07.009 - April 11, 2007

OTTAWA – The names of the two Canadian soldiers killed by a roadside bomb in Afghanistan on April 11, 2007 are as follows:

Master Corporal Allan Stewart, The Royal Canadian Dragoons, based in Petawawa, Ont.; and

Trooper Patrick James Pentland, The Royal Canadian Dragoons, based in Petawawa, Ont.

These two soldiers were killed and two others were injured, one seriously, when a roadside bomb exploded near their vehicle earlier today. The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Kandahar time, approximately 38 km west of Kandahar City. The soldiers had been assisting another vehicle that had been struck by a roadside bomb earlier in the day, one soldier suffered only minor injuries in this earlier attack.

This is very sad news indeed, I for one considered Doc to be a good friend.

I will dedicate the Special Ops mod to Doc. considering all the time and effort he put into it.

I would also like to ask people to make a donation using using Docs paypal to help Christa with expensis.

Awesome gesture and a fitting tribute to the man, JET. The game (and the SO mod) have given me countless hours of entertainment and the opportunity to meet some truly wonderful people that I can now call "friends." I did not know Doc as well as some others did, but I enjoyed those times that he and I shared in the games and he will be sadly missed. Life is not a game, and the horrors of real war do not provide us with a "spacebar" for quick recovery. I can only try to find some consolation in the thought that he was doing something out there that he enjoyed doing, and that he was doing it proudly. When a friend is suddenly taken from us, we reserve a place for them and fill it with their memory. Doc will always have a place on my list of "friends," and it will be an honor to play the Spec Ops mod in his name. Go in peace, my friend. Your battle is done. Your soul can finally lay still. Home is the hunter. Home from the hill.

For a song, End of My journey by Harry Stewart is a touching one. It was at the end of the movie "Cadence" with I think Charlie Sheen. Just and idea, I have a copy of it but it is kinda scratchy.

I didn't know Doc, but I spent my 10yrs in the military. No easy task, but to be excited about deployment shows how truly proud and dedicated he was to his country and career.

And gave his gave doing so. I salute you soldier and may your soul rest in peace.
